Hackney Community Faith Leaders March Against Gun and Knife Crime

On a scorching bank holiday (7 May), community organisations, faith groups and local councillors joined together on a march around Hackney, letting members of the public know that they care about the youth in the borough. Among the 62 lives which have already been claimed in the capital this year through gun and knife crime, around a quarter of these have been in Hackney, the latest of which involved a shooting and acid attack which took place just the previous night.
SEC Elders', Deacons' & Deaconesses' Conference

Elders, deacons and deaconesses were told to 'crossover and reclaim the lost' at this year's South England Conference (SEC) Elders', Deacons' and Deaconesses' Conference, held in Daventry near Northampton during the weekend of 16-18 February 2018. SEC Ministerial director, Pastor Ebenezer Jones-Lartey, told the delegates to expect to be challenged to move out of their comfort zones as they work with God to reach out to the members of our Church who have gone missing.

The film has provided a unique opportunity to share with others the faith of Desmond Doss, the Seventh-day Adventist US medic who not only refused to bear arms but worked ardently to ensure he was able to keep the Sabbath. Ultimately his approach to his despisers and those who ridiculed him showed an exemplary example to one living a Christ-like life. This perhaps more than any other spiritual message was portrayed throughout the film.

The Temper of the Times

Members and visitors of the Hackney Seventh-day Adventist church were told to measure the temper of the times during a Religious Liberty Day programme which took place on Sabbath 7 October 2017. Advent Religio-legal Perspective director, Dr Brighton Kavaloh was invited to speak on the issues at stake surrounding Religious Liberty within a spiritual and political context.

Reconnecting with the family of God' was the theme of Hackney's Homecoming Day on Sabbath 26 August 2017. In anticipation of a bigger congregation the special day was held at the All Saints Church, not too far away from the Hackney Seventh-day Adventist church where many who attended were invited to return home to their 'first love'.
