Hackney Seventh-Day Adventist Church hosts peace march against knife and gun crime

In a passionate speech in Dalston Square, pastor Joojo Bonnie, said: "We are fed up with the dying, we are fed up with the gun violence and we are fed up with the knife killing. We need to come together as one community and take a stand against this issue plaguing our communities."

Hackney Adventist church held its Public Affairs and Religious Liberty

Emphasis Day to a packed congregation on Sabbath 27 April 2019. Invited

were guest speakers from Advent RLP.

South England Conference Communications Director, Pastor Sam Davies was

guest speaker at the Hackney Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Sabbath 9th

March 2019. The Communications Director was highly complementary of

Hackney’s community ministries and outreach endeavors and of the coverage

of these in the local press – notably the Anti-Knife and Gun Crime March in

partnership with representatives from all of Hackney’s diverse faith groups

along with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Hackney.

Hackney Youth are 'The Sermon'

 

17th April 2019 

 

The world celebrated Global Youth Day on Sabbath 16th March 2019.

To mark the occasion, Hackney’s youth decided to Be The Sermon as they

went out into the local community and beyond sharing the love of Jesus with

everyone.

Mother's Day Celebration

 

17th April 2019

 

A special programme dedicated to Mothers took place at the Hackney

Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Sabbath 6th April 2019 in recognition of

Mothers’ Day.

Sabbath School Superintendent, Maria Vinas, said: “A Mother's Love is

nurturing and enables her children to grow.

Review of Poetry Evening: 'Transcendence'

 

18th April 2019

 

Friends, family and members of the public were treated to an evening of

inspirational spoken word poetry and performance in Shoreditch on Thursday

11 April 2019. In association with Final Call Productions (a Christian theatre

company that seeks to inspire, engage, encourage and inform its audiences

through drama, theatre, film and poetry) – the poetic theme – Transcendence

 – brought together various Christian poets and spoken word artists, who

each gave their own interpretation of the theme through their poetry.

The True Meaning of Friendship

 

14th February 2019 

 

In the first of many sessions to come from The Relationship Series,

the Hackney Adventist Youth team presented Friends – I'll Be There

for You? to a packed audience on the afternoon of Sabbath 9

February 2019. For those who were present, it was just good to see

the resurgence of Adventist Youth Services (AYS) once again in church

with the bonus being a plethora of young people taking the lead.

Hackney Reaches the Community

 

24th January 2019

 

Hackney’s Community Ministries Department ended the year of 2018

by bringing a little Christmas cheer to those in the community and

beyond. A special Christmas dinner was taken to the homeless and

those in need. Over 120 individuals benefited from the hot meals,

drinks, blankets, quilts and coats on offer. Also given were soft

drinks, bottles of water alongside a gift bag containing toiletries.

Hackney Stewardship Investment

 

24th January 2019

 

During the penultimate quarter of last year (2018), Hackney Church

departmental leaders were set a stewardship investment challenge by

Social Club leader, Joan Reid. Each department were given £10 and as

in the parable of the talents, were tasked with increasing their

investment, with the proceeds gained returning into each department’s

own budget

Brothers United Against Knife Crime

 

13th December 2018

 

Knife crime and youth violence is fast becoming an alarmingly serious

issue throughout the UK. According to research conducted by The

Guardian's award-winning Beyond the Blade journalistic investigations

into the issue, 39 children and teenagers were killed by a knife in the

UK last year. A year later, there has been a huge surge in the amount

of deaths, with approximately 120 falling victim to knife crime with a

large majority of those being young people.

Hackney Welcomes Student Pastor

 

30th November 2018

 

A big welcome was made to Hackney’s Student Pastor! Elder Japheth

Obese-Amankwah comes to Hackney from the London Ghana Seventh-Day

Adventist Church along with his wife and son. He was introduced to the

church by Hackney's Pastor - Joojo Bonnie - during the One Life: We Can

Make a Difference Revival with American Evangelist - Pastor John Parker. 

He will be studying at Newbold College for the ministry while officiating in

Hackney. Elder Japheth is a qualified accountant with a passion for

personal, community and youth ministries.

End The Silence - Theatre Review

There were positive vibes in the air as members of the public flocked to a family fun day put on by members of the Hackney Seventh-day Adventist church on Sunday 19 August. The event, which took place in Haggerston, where the church is based, attracted both young and old with the variety of stalls and

free activities offered.

God Loves everyone, No Exceptions

 

27th July 2018

 

'God loves everyone, no exceptions', was the message told to the members and visitors attending Hackney's Community Ministries Day on Sabbath 21 July 2018. Sabbath School Superintendent, Vivian Weekes, spoke about the importance of church members working together in order to fulfil the gospel commission of teaching and leading others to Christ. This admonition was appropriately followed by the lesson study which demonstrated how the early Church were in one accord, dependent on the Holy Spirit to lead and direct them in fellowship and evangelism, meeting each other's needs.

3 Baptised During Revival

There was rejoicing in heaven as 3 precious souls returned to the Lord through a special baptismal service which took place during the culmination of a week-long revival at the Hackney Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Haggerston church hosts summer fun day

 

22 August 2018

 

The event in Haggerston attracted both young and old with the variety of stalls and free activities offered.

As well as there being tasty Caribbean cuisine, music to get everyone on their feet, a bouncy castle for the little ones and a domino tournament for the elders, there were also stalls promoting health and well-being.

Event co-ordinator, Andrea Simpson, said the fun day was a follow up to the march the church did around Hackney during the May bank holiday in response to the knife and gun crime in the borough.

Michaela Mathieu-Marius Is Making A Difference

A group of 16 from Hackney Seventh Day Adventist Church will be visiting Nyaruguru, where 21 people died following the strike in March last year.

​

The Hackney church's youth leader Michaela Mathieu-Marius was in the Rwanda church on the day and lost one of her Year 5 students.
